Let's Press Pause: You In?
EOT Books is here! Dive into our storytelling series debut with Danielle Darden’s “Let’s Press Pause.”

Danielle Darden’s newest piece looks at why so many of us stay plugged into everything except ourselves. breaks down how hustle culture can hide exhaustion, how survival-mode habits hold us back, and why honest check-ins are key for clarity and creativity.
In Let’s Press Pause, Danielle offers five practical daily and weekly practices that help you assess stress, reconnect with joy, and rebuild intention so your days feel grounded rather than draining.
It’s a steady, clear look at what it takes to shift from running on empty to building a life that feels like your own. Here’s the full piece:
Lets Press Pause
By Danielle Darden
When was the last time you truly checked in with yourself?
I’m not talking about yoga classes, bubble baths, or scrolling past a quote that made you go “whew.”
I’m talking about uninterrupted space—space to explore your thoughts, ask how you're really doing, and sit with the answer.
Most of us are excellent at checking in—with work, with people, with notifications. But when it comes to checking in with ourselves, we ghost our own needs. And we wonder why joy feels distant, creativity feels blocked, or our hustle feels hollow.
The truth?
Our productivity has been rebranded as hustle. Our exhaustion has been normalized as excellence.
But here's the reality: the skills you used to survive won’t serve you when it’s time to thrive.
And if you want to be the most successful version of yourself—whatever success means to you—it starts with you.
Not the metrics.
Not the calendar.
You.
Because a brilliant idea can’t shine through a burned-out mind.
Self-check-ins aren’t optional—they’re essential. And not just once a month, but as a daily habit, a weekly ritual, a rhythm that builds your resilience.
Below are five check-ins I use to re-align, refocus, and refuel. Try them once a week for three weeks—or better yet, make them part of your daily life. You deserve that level of care.
1. The Morning Alignment Check
Ask: What’s one thing I need to feel grounded today?
Whether it’s a quiet moment with tea, a playlist that centers you, or a walk before work—give yourself something small but powerful to root your day.
2. The Midday Stress Scan
Ask: Where’s my stress level right now, 1–10?
Name it without judgment. If it’s above a 7, pause. Breathe. Stretch. Step away. Productivity isn’t about pushing—it's about pacing.
3. The Joy Meter
Ask: When’s the last time I laughed—like really laughed?
If it’s been a while, you need joy back in your schedule. It’s not fluff—it’s fuel.
4. The Gratitude Pause
Ask: What’s one thing I’m grateful for today?
This one keeps you anchored in abundance, even when the day felt chaotic. Gratitude is a daily mindset reset.
5. The Big Picture Check-In (Weekly)
Ask: Am I building the life I want, or just ticking boxes?
Zoom out. Reconnect with your bigger vision. Adjust if needed.
Final Thought:
Success without mental wellness isn’t success—it’s just survival in disguise. If you want to thrive, you’ve got to treat your mind like the asset it is.
So here's your challenge:
Pick one check-in. Schedule it today.
The future you—the joyful, clear, fully-charged you—will thank you.
