And We're Back!
Meet our new cohort and what's cooking in 2024

“Now, she proudly vibes to Kendrick Lamar's "They Not Like Us," embracing her uniqueness, occasional pettiness…”
Founder’s Pulse
Friends,
When we embarked on our mission to bridge the racial wealth gap through mentorship, funding, and education of young entrepreneurs, we never anticipated the profound impact it would have, fostering lasting and meaningful relationships within and beyond our community. Through unwavering commitment and a shared belief, we've cultivated our own entrepreneurial family.
Each interaction with our students, volunteers, and donors reaffirms our purpose and challenges me to strive for personal growth, even on the toughest days :-)
One story particularly resonates—that of a Youthpreneur who faced daunting financial and emotional hurdles. Despite setbacks, including team departures, she persevered. Her unwavering determination and belief in her vision guided her to recruit a new team with skillsets that matched her immediate needs. She is excited and relieved that her business is moving toward profitability by the end of 2024. Now, she proudly vibes to Kendrick Lamar's "They Not Like Us," embracing her uniqueness, occasional pettiness, and imperfect journey.
As we embark on this new season, I invite you to welcome our new youthpreneurs and interns to EOT. Exciting opportunities lie ahead, including the chance to mentor our future leaders. Interested in becoming a mentor? Simply reply to this email and let me know. Together, let’s shape a brighter future.
With gratitude,
Daniel P. Calderon

Economic Impact of Black-Owned Businesses in the U.S.

Gif by halifax on Giphy
The growth of Black-owned businesses has not only transformed communities but also made a meaningful impact on the U.S. economy. Recent analyses by the Brookings Institution highlight that these enterprises contribute over $200 billion annually to the nation's economic output.
In addition to our economic contribution, Black-owned businesses play a crucial role in job creation, providing livelihoods for approximately 1.2 million Americans, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This not only enhances economic stability but also reduces unemployment rates nationwide.
Moreover, increased business activity by Black-owned enterprises leads to higher tax revenues for local, state, and federal governments. For instance, in 2023 alone, these businesses collectively contributed approximately $23 billion in federal taxes, as reported by the Kauffman Foundation.
Beyond financial metrics, Black-owned businesses are pivotal in fostering local development and resilience. Operating often in underserved communities, they bring economic vitality, increase property values, and enhance community cohesion. By creating jobs and supporting local supply chains, these businesses stimulate economic activity and contribute significantly to neighborhood revitalization.
Supporting Black entrepreneurship is not just a matter of equity; it is a strategic investment in economic growth. By expanding access to capital, mentorship, and business development resources, we empower Black entrepreneurs to innovate, create new markets, and drive competitiveness across industries. This empowerment not only enhances economic inclusivity but also amplifies the entrepreneurial spirit that fuels America's prosperity.
As we acknowledge the achievements of Black-owned businesses, let us reaffirm our commitment to fostering an environment where all entrepreneurs can thrive. Join us to build a more robust and equitable economy that benefits every corner of our society.
